What is De Montfort Welcome Festival?
De Montfort Welcome Festival is a collection of events, activities and talks to settle you into university life!
The Welcome Festival kicks off with DMU's International Welcome Week, and runs right through to the end of your first week of teaching.
When does De Montfort Welcome Festival start?
De Montfort Welcome Festival starts for International Students on the 16th September with a series of events to support settling into the UK, the main period of activity for all students then starts on Saturday 21st September. Welcome events and activities run through until the 6th October.

You can find us right at the heart of DMU.

Where can I get Wristbands/Tickets for Welcome Festival?
Wristbands and individual event tickets can be bought from our website on events.demontfortsu.com
Our events site is the ONLY place to purchase a Welcome Festival Wristband and tickets.
Wristbands bought from external promoters and sites are not associated with De Montfort Students' Union (DSU) and DSU will not be liable for any purchases made outside of our events site events.demontfortsu.com
Wristband Collections
You do not need to collect a physical wristband to enter Welcome Festival events, as we will require to scan your QR code for entry.
You can use the masterpass feature on events.demontfortsu.com to add the masterpass to a digital wallet on your mobile device for easy access. The masterpass will work as your ticket for any events purchased through the events.demontfortsu.com site, including all of your QR codes attached to your Wristband purchase.
To ensure quick and smooth entry please have this ready ahead of time for your arrival at the event.
Will I need to bring photo ID?
Yes. All of events where alcohol is available will require a valid form of Photo ID.
You must bring either a Passport, Driving License or National ID Card that with the Pass Hologram.
Photocopies or Pictures will not be accepted.
Please note that you might be refused entry and/or sale if you don't present your valid ID when asked.
Are the events accessible? What if I have additional needs?
De Montfort Students' Union building, as well as the Lvl1@DSU are fully accesible. Please seek assistance at the DSU Hub, located on the left as you enter the building.
Please get in touch with us through your native account if you have any additional needs you might want to discuss. We will do our best to support you and make your event great.
What if I feel unwell or notice someone who feels unwell?
We want our spaces to be as welcoming and safe as possible. If you feel unwell, please come and speak to our team and they will help you out. We will have at least one First Responder and/or trained First Aider on-site at all times so you’re in safe hands! Our team will be wearing DSU branded t-shirt and/or high wis jackets so you can spot us quickly. You can always speak to our door security team and marshalls for assistance.
FREE Bottle Spikies are available from the bar to protect your drink but please rememeber to keep it with you at all times.
Wristband and Refund Policy
The Wristband (pass) is non-transferable and linked to your personal registration details. Attempting to share or duplicate passes may result in denied entry.
We strongly recommend bringing a portable charger and/or printing out your digital pass as a backup when attending events. Entry cannot be guaranteed without presenting the QR code (digital wristband).
Refunds will not be accepted and any refund requests will be considered on individual case basis. Please reach out to us via Native account.
Guest Policy
DSU welcomes non student guests to our events. The guest must be accompanied by a current DMU student, have valid photo ID and have pre-purchased a wristband or ticket for the event(s).
There is no limit on the number of guests a student may bring with them, however the guest and their behaviour will be the responsibility of the student accompanying them.
No Guests will be permitted to certain student events such as the Welcome Fair.
On entry checks and security Policy
Bags and walltes checks will be conducted by door security team and pat downs and pocket searches might be in place to ensure the safety of the attendees of the event. Items might be confiscated if there are on the list of prohibited items, including but not limited to alcohol purchased outside of Lvl1, any kind of illegal substances, weapons.

Can I smoke/vape in the venues?
No. Smoking and vaping is strictly prohibited anywhere in the buildings and there will be dedicated spaces outside for you to do so. There are several detectors fitted around the buildings that are activated by smoking or vaping. This results in the whole building being evacuated and the event cancelled.
Payment plan
Payment plans must be paid in full before granting your event access - all refunds on the payment plan must be requested 2 weeks before the first event on 6th September or refunds will not be granted for partially paid wristbands.
What is your refund policy if I decide not to attend the event after I’d purchased the ticket?
We provide refunds only in specific circumstances. Please get in touch if you require one.
Refund Policy
At De Montfort Students' Union (DSU), we strive to provide enjoyable and well-organized events for all attendees. However, we understand that unforeseen circumstances may arise. In line with UK consumer law, we have established the following refund policy:
Refund Eligibility
Refunds will only be granted for situations directly within the control of DSU, including:
- Event cancellation by DSU.
- Significant changes to the event date, time, or location that would prevent the ticket holder from attending.
- Major alterations to the advertised content of the event (such as a change of headline performer).
Refund Request Deadlines
Refunds must be requested no later than 48 hours before the event commences. Requests made after this time will not be considered, except in cases where the event was not delivered as advertised.
Refunds requested after the event has taken place will not be granted unless DSU failed to deliver the event as advertised (e.g., if key elements of the event were missing or misrepresented).
Non-Refundable Situations
Refunds will not be issued for situations outside of DSU's control, including:
- Personal reasons for non-attendance, including illness, travel difficulties, or change of plans.
- Adverse weather conditions unless the event is canceled by DSU.
- Government regulations or legal restrictions beyond DSU’s control (such as pandemic-related measures).
Up-to-Date Event Information
Accurate and up-to-date information about events, including timings, locations, and content, can be found on events.demontfortsu.com. All promotional materials and communications regarding events should refer to this website. DSU reserves the right to make changes to event details up until the event commences, in order to ensure the best possible experience for attendees.
Requesting a Refund
Refund requests must be submitted in writing to the DSU Events Team no later than 48 hours before the event start time. Refunds will be processed within 14 working days from the date of approval. Any requests received after this deadline will only be considered if the event did not meet the advertised details.
Transferable Tickets
If a refund is not granted, ticket holders are encouraged to transfer their tickets to others, where possible, subject to DSU terms and conditions. Event tickets can be transferred between users through their account on events.demontfortsu.com.
Consumer Rights
This policy operates in compliance with the Consumer Rights Act 2015, ensuring that ticket holders' statutory rights are protected. DSU will always endeavour to deliver events as advertised but reserves the right to make reasonable changes prior to the event’s commencement.
